Shahrith, Minha & ‘Arbith Daily

Dear Friends,

We are very proud to announce that the Sir Jacob Sassoon Synagogues and Charity Trusts are providing the significant service to our residents and visitors from home and abroad, of providing all Minyanim daily in Mumbai.

Shahrith, Minha and ‘Arbith are held every day in the Magen David Synagogue in the Byculla neigborhood of Mumbai, and all Shabbath and Holiday prayers are held at both the Keneseth Eliyahoo Synagogue, in the central Fort area of Mumbai, as well as at the Magen David Synagogue in Byculla.

Additionally, Shabbath prayers are also held in Pune (Poona), at the famed Ohel David Synagogue (Lal Dewal).

If you are visiting Mumbai or Poona, we would be delighted to greet you at one of our famed “Sasssoon” Synagogues. For more information, please visit:

Major Renovations at the Magen David Synagogue
(to be followed by the Keneseth Eliyahoo Synangogue)

Major renovations are underway at the Magen David Synagogue in Byculla, Mumbai. Renovations, including significant roof and building work, as well as repainting inside and out are well underway.

The Keneseth Eliyahu Synagogue will also be undergoing extensive repair and restoration.

Extraordinary Holocaust (Sho’ah) Commemoration at the Keneseth Eliyahoo Synagogue

On Yom HaSho’ah, the Keneseth Eliyahoo Synagogue, in Mumbai, was host to dignitaries, including numerous Consul Generals, representing major countries around the world.

We were honoured to have the presence of Rabbi Ya’aqob Menashe, who flew in from New York, specially for the occasion.
Judah Samuel was the eloquent MC, and I encourage you to watch the videos at the link below.

It was most edifying to hear the comments of the various speakers and it was an important tribute to the memory of the holy souls who perished in the Sho’ah.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who attended, and all those who worked tirelessly to make the evening the important occasion that it was.

The videos and photographs of the occasion can be seen at:

Tribute Gathering for Mrs. Rachel Menashe at the Keneseth Eliyahoo Synagogue

A moving and highly enlightening memorial service was held in memory of the late Mrs. Rachel Menashe, ‘a”h, wife of the late Chairman and Life President of the Sassoon Synagogues and Charity trusts, Mr. Albert Menashe, ‘a”h. A fascinating and highly informative video on her life was shown to the large number of attendees.
There were personal accounts from Rabbi Ya’aqob Menashe, Dr Sara Manasseh, Sam Marshall and Mrs. Eva Menahem. The videos and photographs of the occasion can be seen at:

Sadly Missed

Reuben Kelly, ‘a”h, was a cornerstone of the community in India. He was a trustee of the Sir Jacob Sasssoon Trusts and will be sadly missed. In his life he had been a professional singer and was very involved in the Hill Grange High School in its heyday. His presence in the Keneseth Eliyahu Synagogue was a powerful one. Our sympathies go out to his wife, his son and his daughters.

Ezra Aboody, ‘a”h, was a long standing member of the community. He was a brilliant man, who worked hard for the causes he believed in. His loss, prematurely, is a difficult one. Our deepest sympathies go out to his brother Albert and all his extended family.
